Camp Pixie Dust 2018 Week 9-Camp Crafts

Well, it's time for one of my favorite parts of camp; crafts! 2013 had a Camp Craft Week and I thought this was a perfect idea which I've done last year too.

Here are some summer craft ideas:

"Magic" rocks: This one is very simple; you'd paint rocks and add glitter on them. You can put these stones in a jar and they'll look nice

Glitter globe

What you'd need:

  • Small jar (you can paint the lid whichever color you'd want)
  • Glitter
  • Corn syrup
  • Water
Fill half the jar with corn syrup and half with water. Then, add the glitter. Screw the lid on tightly and shake the jar to see the pretty glittery colors!

Friendship bracelets (you can keep these for yourselves too): I've already posted about the traditional embroidery thread friendship bracelet. But there are other friendship bracelet ideas. These include stringing on beads or even threading buttons on a string.

Pins: I have two ideas; a felt flower or an apple. For the flower, you'd cut a flower shape out of felt and decorate it. You can glue the felt on thin cardboard to make it sturdier. You can glue on a smaller felt flower too. Gluing a button on the center would be nice.

For the apple pin, you'd cut an apple shape out of cardboard. Then, you'd glue red, green and maybe yellow pieces of scrapbooking paper and fabric on the cardboard, with each layer shrinking in size. You can even add newspaper. You can also glue a button on the center of your apple. Do the same for a leaf shape and glue the leaf on the apple.

Glue a pin on the back of your flower or apple (or whatever you make), and you're ready to wear this cute accessory!

Collage: This craft is the cheapest and easiest out of the bunch. They look very cool too. You collage can be on a card, cork board, box or a bedroom wall. Your collage can be on anything basically. If your attaching your pictures on a bedroom wall, I use tape. If on a piece of paper, a glue stick would do. For something like a box or notebook, I'd use Mod Podge.

For your collage, you can use pictures. But you can also use glitter or buttons if you want (or even seashells!).

Here are some ideas; you can make your collage a certain theme. It can be themed after a certain color or even a certain talent. For example, if it's light talent, you can use the sun, moon, rainbows and fireflies. I decorated one of my boxes with planets. I even decorated a time capsule box with clock related images.

Your collage can be made any way you want. On one of my bedroom walls, I added nearly arranged pictures of some of my favorite Pixie Hollow location images.

And if you're going with the box idea but you don't really like how your recycled box looks like, you can cover the box with tissue paper.

Crafts were a big part in Pixie Hollow's camp too. In fact, the first ever event crafts were during camp 2010! S'mores were introduced in the third week, a canteen belt got added to Mendy's in week 4, and a leaf boat was added to Copper's in week 8. You'd earn a badge for personal crafting one of these items five times.

In 2012, the s'mores returned, but there was also a Camp Fireworks silly sweet. These crafts were available for the whole summer. But in each of the themed sections of camp, there was a themed craft for each talent. You'd actually practice make one of these crafts in each of the quests.

Animal-Bunny Slippers-Mendy's
Garden-Butterfly Mosaic-Copper's
Water-Otter Knit Hat-Bobbin's
Tinker-Turtle Satchel-Mendy's
Light-Glowworm Lanterns-Copper's

In 2013, the treats were there for the whole summer again while the talent crafts were available starting on August 13th.

And to conclude this is Fairy Tale Theatre tales from 2010:

Mainland Monsters

A trip to the mainland is such a delight!
And we have a reason for taking that flight.
We bring the seasons for everyone there.
But while on the mainland you'd best beware ...
... MONSTERS ARE THERE!
I tell you these monsters are as big as trees!
And dark as shadows cast by leaves!
They roll like boulders along the ground!
And make the most horrible rumbling sound!
They belch dark smoke in enormous black clouds!
And sometimes hoot like the angriest owls!
But worst of all, at night their eyes ...
... GLOW like giant fireflies!
So when on the mainland enjoy and have fun.
But if you see a MONSTER it's best to run!
So ends our story.
Mermaid Mischief

Once the Hollow was saved by a mermaid, it's true!
The pirates had come to catch me and you.
Captain Hook and his men, a trail they did follow.
That was leading them to the heart of Pixie Hollow!
They crept near the bank of a stream, unaware ...
... that a mischievous mermaid was hiding right there.
She wanted a ring Hook wore on his hand.
And to get it she had a most clever plan.
SPLASH! She flipped her tail in the water!
The pirates all turned and they almost caught her ...
... but cuddle vines wrapped around them instead.
Hugging them tight from their toes to their heads!
The mermaid snatched Hook's ring from his finger ...
... and fled down the stream, smart not to linger.
The pirates got free from the vines and gave chase.
Leaving Pixie Hollow behind in its secret place.
And thus ends this tale.

Hope you enjoy some camp crafts! And here's a badge for doing any type of craft whether it's drawing, crafting, painting, sewing, writing, filming or baking.
